I’ve been a wedding DJ for 2 years, but as a violinist since the age of 4, I’ve been around weddings and music my whole life.
Before becoming a wedding DJ, I regularly played violin/fiddle in multiple Duluth party bands (Most prominently Circuit Breakers & Rage n Country) that did weddings, as well as ceremonies & cocktail hours on my own. -
I use my own Google Sheets form that works specifically as a DJ & Violinist. I share this form with couples that book me, and this is our guide to all the details throughout the day.
Here’s what the Google Sheets form looks like
The Music Things
-
The violin, being the most romantic instrument ever (not a biased opinion at allllll 😜) can come out at the most important moments of the day; When you walk down the aisle, when you say “I do”, during your first dance, etc.
In addition to playing pop covers on violin during cocktail hour or dinner (samples), the violin can also come out on the dance floor. As a multi-genre violinist, I can throw down fiddle solos on country songs, play guitar solos on the classics, jam over hip hop beats, and go crazy shredding over EDM drops.
-
As both a DJ and violinist, you have some options for how your ceremony will sound, music-wise.
As a DJ, I can hit “play” on a song
As a violinist, I can play the song on the instrument.
The real magic is that I can actually do both!
I can play violin along with a song, and there’s 2 ways I can do this:Play an instrumental version of the song, and the violin plays the lead or vocal line
Play the original song with words, and the violin plays along with the song for that extra lovely romantic & classical sound
A couple of additional options are:Hiring additional musicians/accompanists
Playing pre-recorded piano accompaniment for me to play along to
-
Yes! I’m a play-by-ear violinist, which means I can simply listen to a song a few times, and then know how to play it on the violin.
While I can absolutely play any song, if you’re stuck deciding on what song for what moment, here’s a list of popular suggestions for me as a DJ & violinist
-
Some DJs will always play the whole song no matter what, and some DJs treat every song like it’s part of a mash-up. I am somewhere in the middle of those two extremes.
While some songs are legendary and deserve to be played in their entirety, I aim to play the best & most recognizable parts of songs, or cut more boring parts of some songs. This keeps the dance floor much more energetic, and allows me to play more songs you love throughout the night.
If there’s a song on your “must play” list, that will usually signal to me to play the whole thing
And Lastly
-
My biggest strength as a wedding DJ is the violin.
With violin during all the romantic moments AND all the fun moments, you & your guests will feel like this wedding was different - there wasn’t just another DJ like we’ve seen before, this guy was a violinist, and it was awesome!Wedding planning with me is easy & stress-free.
With a simple collaborative online form, figuring out all the details for your wedding will be super easy and as stress-free as possible. The one-on-one attention of a independent DJ.
When you book me, I promise you’ll be avoiding phone calls & emails with a DJ company that doesn’t even pick your DJ until a week or month before the wedding. I do my best to respond at least within 24 hours, because prompt communication is important.
Having a DJ that intimately understands music and goes go above and beyond to provide a unique musical experience for you & your guests will make your wedding day that much more memorable

Here’s a few things about me as a DJ:
I’m not “big on the mic”
While I can absolutely make announcements, do your grand march, etc. Some DJs talk a lot on the microphone to hype up the dance floor, asking them to put their hands up, sing the songs, etc. Some people really love this in a DJ, but this is not my style at all.
I’m not a DJ that gets on the microphone to hype everyone up.
I’m a DJ that gets on the violin to hype everyone up.
I’m not actually a “Disk Jockey”
Most DJs use DJ controllers / turntables to mix the music. I instead use Ableton Live, which allows me to easily integrate my violin and have a synced up light show that goes with the music, while still allowing me to do everything a good DJ can do - mix songs together, do nifty transitions, etc.
However, if you’re interested in a DJ that actually utilizes DJ controllers / turntables, or does scratching-style routines, I would not be the DJ for your wedding.
I’m a violinist first and foremost
If you’re not very interested in the violin being played for your wedding, well, there’s many, many DJs out there that don’t play violin that may be a better fit for your wedding
